Citibank was registered as a bank with 100% foreign capital in 1993. Founding members of the limited liability partnership (Citi Bank, LLP), with equal stakes, were three American entities from the state of Delaware (domestic offshore area), namely Centaur Investment Corporation, Citibank Overseas Investment Corporation and Foremost Investment Corporation. The bank was later re-registered as a closed joint stock company (CJSC), and LLP vanished from its corporate name. The bank changed its corporate status to a public joint stock company (PJSC) in July 2015. Citibank is a subsidiary bank of US-based Citigroup* (100% of the banks shares are directly held by Citigroup Netherlands\u00a0B.\u00a0V.). \n

In the January \u2014 October period of 2017, the banks assets jumped 13.6% (up Rub 60.5 bln) to over Rub 500 bln (Rub 505.7 bln) as of early September. During this period the bank chalked up an inflow of funds from corporate customers (mainly into settlement accounts and short-term deposits). Funds of corporate customers jumped by a quarter. Capital and retail deposits also rose conservatively (up 5.3% and 4.3%, respectively). Meanwhile, the money held on loro accounts declined by a third, although in absolute terms the decline had no effect on overall growth of liabilities. Drawn liquidity was mainly invested in the inter-bank lending market, with the portfolio of inter-bank loans expanding by nearly 40% (up Rub 62.3 bln). The lender also bumped up its credit portfolio (+11.1% or Rub 15.9 bln), while cutting provisions of high-liquidity balances and securities investments (in the aggregate, by Rub 16.6 bln). \r\n\r\n
The banks main source of funds is the money of businesses and institutions (accounted for 56% of liabilities as of the balance sheet date). Retail deposits account for 23.5% of liabilities, with drawn inter-bank loans and inter-bank balances held on loro accounts accounting in the aggregate for 3.1%. The banks clientele is active, with monthly turnover on settlement accounts of the banks clients ranging Rub 4.5 tln to Rub 6 tln since the beginning of 2017. The banks capital accounts for slightly more than 12% of liabilities, while the capital adequacy ratio, in line with CBR requirements, is maintained at a comfortable level by a good margin (14.8% for the \u2116\u00a01.0 ratio as of November 1, 2017). \r\n\r\n
As of the balance sheet date, the portfolio of granted inter-bank loans prevailed (44% of assets). The credit portfolio accounts for 30.5% of assets, 14.3% falls to securities, 7.3% to high-liquidity assets, and nearly 4% to other assets and fixed assets. \r\n\r\n
The lenders credit portfolio has increased by 11.5% since the beginning of 2017. This rise was mainly driven by corporate loans, although retail loans rose as well. Corporate loans still hold sway in the credit portfolio, accounting for around two thirds. NPLs are reported as a mere 0.2%. Loan loss provisions covered 2.2% of the credit portfolio (2.5% as of start 2017). According to an explanatory note to the banks financial statement, as of October 1, 2017 half of the corporate credit portfolio fell to borrowers from the manufacturing sector, 28.4% to wholesalers and retailers, 11.7% to financial and insurance companies, and 3.2% to natural-resource businesses. Meanwhile, 84% of the corporate credit portfolio falls to transnational corporations, with the rest to major commercial enterprises (IFRS data as of June 2017). The retail credit portfolio consists (nearly 50\/50) of consumer loans and credit cards. \r\n\r\n
The bank is aggressive in offering available liquidity in the inter-bank lending market using all instruments in its arsenal. As of the balance sheet date, 38% of inter-bank loans was issued to foreign banks (both short- and mid-term loans), with nearly the same percent to Russian lenders (mainly for short-term periods), and the remainder of the portfolio (25%) deposited with the Bank of Russia.
